Judex is a company that develops a wide range of software and hardware products for the healthcare sector. We are located in the thriving university city of Aalborg, Denmark but our area of action spans the entire globe with business and research partners in many different countries.
Judex was started by a group of researchers in 1981. The university legacy is strong within the company and great emphasis is put on state of the art technology like advanced signal analysis, decision support system theory and data base design. We have now more than 25 years of experience in developing biomedical and medical informatics solutions for the world market.
Judex expertise has always been focused on understanding both the clinical as well as the technical aspects, and combining this know-how into new and innovative products for the benefit of the patient and the hospital staff.
Operationally Judex is divided into two divisions, the Biomedical Engineering division that has expert knowledge of clinical solutions, biological signals, software and hardware development and the Medical Informatics division that excels in telemedicine, decision support systems, healthcare records and clinical databases. Product development will typically span over the expertise of both divisions, e.g. a blood sugar measuring device that wirelessly reports measurement values directly into electronic healthcare records.
We can offer different forms of product development from outsourcing to joint ventures. Each product is handled as a unique development project with all of Judex s expertise and special resources readily available. A project can embrace the whole process from idea to end product or can consist of only a part of that process e.g. development of hardware device drivers, user interface or Hospital Information
Our long standing focus on clinical product development has given us an extensive and unique experience in joint projects with both commercial, clinical and university partners.
Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with many of the leading researchers, clinicians and businesses within the healthcare business area.
The Complete Picture
To develop successful healthcare products, taking into account the complete picture, is an art. An art where engineering excellence, the ability to be at the forefront of research, but most importantly, to listen to the end users must be combined.
We know software, from firmware to web-based client-server solutions. We know hardware, developing front end biomedical amplifiers, connecting it wirelessly or integrating it to a PDA platform. Connecting to even the most complex databases, electronic healthcare records or hospital information systems is just a matter of using our existing expertise.
The Research Involvement
Besides our extensive network of researchers we are staying at the forefront of the current research by being frequently involved in the European Community research projects. It is giving us both the necessary know how but also important new contacts to researchers around the world.
The Clinical Presence
We have always believed that knowledge about the clinical environment is the key to developing successful products. We are frequently in contact with the clinicians during product development and validation but we are always trying to find new ways to increase our clinical knowledge. For instance all Judex developers are regularly stationed at different hospital clinics around the world to learn about the clinical needs and requirements. The complete picture is what we are aiming for.
In the Real World
Over 30 years of experience in developing healthcare products, and a numerous number of product launches, have taught us to produce functional solutions. There are an infinite number of considerations to take into account when developing solutions for the real world, below are a few examples of the guidelines guiding all of Judex solutions.
Ease of Use
If it is not easy to use do not bother to develop it, it will not be used anyway. The way the functionality is presented to the user, the user interface, is extremely important and we have spent vast amount of resources to develop a proven clinical user interface that works optimally in the clinical environment.
Do not make it perfect
Do not strive for perfect solutions at first go - make it good enough and get it out into the clinical reality as soon as possible. With the clinical feedback a better product can then be developed in a much shorter time.
Adjustable not Flexible
Flexibility comes inevitable with an increased complexity that very few users will benefit from but that all users will suffer from. Instead make the solution adjustable so that it can easily be adjusted to a specific need or requirement without forcing the user to consider all the possible options.
Users do not want change
End users are rarely happy to be forced to deviate from their existing routines. It must be made worthwhile, the benefits should by far make up for the effort of learning new ways. For this all benefits must be stressed, well presented and made easily accessible.
Solutions for the real world.
Judex main focus is product development for the global healthcare market. We know how to handle the whole production process from idea to final product and we can offer swift and flexible solutions within different business models.
Developing products is fun but does not amount to much if it's not good business. To accommodate for different business needs we are practicing three ways of doing business.
We frequently receive product ideas from our extensive contact network within the healthcare community. Physicians and researchers come to us with specific needs or problems. We suggest a solution, define a product, examine the market and find a business partner interested in marketing and distributing this product.
Outsourcing & Consulting
Companies lacking some specific skills or simply short of own resources turn to us for help. They may be looking for some marketing feedback, a new clinically validated user interface or perhaps they want to connect their existing medical equipment to a Hospital Information System or connect it to a computer or PDA. All these cases would fall nicely within our Outsourcing & Consulting model where we define the task together, assign the proper resources and expertise, and present the optimal solution.
Full joint venture cooperation is applicable in bigger projects that can evolve into multiple product lines over an extended period of time. In a joint venture we will both co-finance as well as continuously develop the product(s) together with a business partner responsible for marketing and distribution. We have very successful joint venture projects running now for more than 20 years!
What You Get
Time to market is critical. So is the quality and price. To deliver affordable high quality state of the art healthcare solutions is our business. And do not take our word for it!
Flexible Resources and Know How
By working in projects and taking advantage of our flexibility, resources and knowhow can be assembled in the best possible way. And by using the inherent expertise of similar problems that our experienced staff has, shortcutting the development.
We develop only open solutions based on standards and general functionality. This allows us to quickly combine and make extensive use of our existing proven solutions gaining both in development time and in testing, documentation and validation.
Continuous Feedback & Early Validation
We do continuous market feedback during the whole development process so that expensive and time consuming mistakes can be avoided. Early clinical testing is done by breaking up the development into independent parts and verifying them separately. This makes it possible to deliver clinical validation in a minimal amount of time.
